Mandate:The NYS Education Department and the NYS Department Of Health jointly recommend following the
Health Advisory: Prevention of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Infections in the School Setting Guidelines for schools dated October 25, 2007. *
*Note: This advisory was originally issued on October 25, 2007. Several updates have been made to the advisory; the updated sections are shaded in blue.
These guidelines include infection control and prevention, guidelines for teachers, school nurses, athletic and custodial departments, as well as cleaning and disinfection procedure in the school setting with the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and NYSDEC-registered disinfectant products effective against MRSA.
What the SRM Service can do to help:Services: - Assist in updating and implementing an effective infection control plan.
- Train staff in identification of MRSA and in appropriate infection control procedures.
- Provide information on medical conditions and communicable diseases.
