The New York State Education Department is committed to promoting safe learning environments where students and teachers work collaboratively in pursuit of academic excellence and social and emotional growth. The information provides safety resources and guidance to school officials about the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Act. It also provides a guidance document for the completion of school safety plans. The information is especially useful for school administrators and others concerned about school safety.

RESCUE: Rebuilding Schools to Uphold Education

The New York State Education Department has regulations on health and safety in schools that have been in place since October 1, 1999. Healthy School Network promoted these regulations, and has since been working to get them followed in schools throughout the state. These state- aided mandates, known as RESCUE (Rebuilding Schools to Uphold Education) regulations, if followed, will provide protection for the health and safety of New York State school children and personnel.
